3D Home Tour

Take a 3D tour to learn the types of fire extinguishers you need to protect your home.
Recommended by Fire Experts for Proven Protection
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends at least one primary protection fire extinguisher for each level of the home. A primary protection fire extinguisher should have a fairly large capacity and must be UL Rated 2-A:10-B:C or higher. In addition to your primary protection, you should also have supplementary protection fire extinguishers that are UL rated for specific hazards, such as common kitchen cooking fires. Supplementary fire extinguishers are recommended for placement in specific areas, such as the kitchen.

This supplementary protection fire extinguisher meets the recommendations and needs of:

  • The National Fire Protection Association: the NFPA 10 Standard for Fire Extinguishers
  • Underwriters Laboratories (UL): the independent testing lab for fire safety products
  • Professionals: for more than 90 years, industry leaders, the military, airlines, and firefighters have relied on Kidde fire extinguishers
The Right Solution for an Emergency Situation
In an emergency situation, you need a proven technology: a UL-rated fire extinguisher with a handle, a visible pressure gauge, and enough size and capacity to put out a common fire. These features are what make a fire extinguisher the tool of choice for true fire suppression. Many aerosol can fire products may not be as reliable for fire protection, because they have a short shelf life (only three years in many cases), they do not provide a gauge to verify readiness, and they aren't UL rated. If you are able to react to a small fire when it starts, chances are good you can stop the fire with the right type of fire extinguisher.

Safe Extinguishing Agent with Easy Cleanup
This fire extinguisher is UL rated 10-B:C, and it uses a non-toxic fire suppressing agent specified for kitchen fires. Many kitchen fire products use a mix of chemicals that are not food safe. Cleaning up the sticky residue left after even a small grease fire can be quite a chore. This Kidde fire extinguisher uses a non-toxic sodium bicarbonate powder that's easy to clean up and is electrically nonconductive, an important feature for kitchen fires.

Built to Last and Easy to Use
This Kidde Fire Extinguisher is durable and easy to use. The fire extinguisher is warranted for 10 years, and its metal pressure gauge helps ensure that the fire extinguisher is charged and ready for use. This extinguisher is durable and corrosion resistant, featuring a rust- and impact-resistantnylon handle and a light-but-durable aluminum cylinder. The sure-grip handle and operating lever make it less likely for the extinguisher to slip from wet or oily hands and easier to operate for people with arthritis or weakness of the fingers. A large bilingual nameplate on the extinguisher provides easy-to-read instructions for use during a fire.

You can place a kitchen fire extinguisher near your countertop, or in a drawer or cabinet, but make sure it is pressurized and close at hand for emergency use.

5 out of 5 stars Kidde Fire Extinguisher 82CI   September 6, 2010
C. L. Horn (Prattville, AL United States)
I received this product promptly (before the promised date) and it is in good condition. Due to the nature of the product (ha), I haven't used it yet & hope I never shall!!! The black & white really
matches my kitchen decor so I keep it on the counter by the stove---just in case!

5 out of 5 stars Worked for me   August 28, 2010
T.J. (Texas)
I've had this extinguisher for about 4 years or so, sitting in my kitchen. I recently moved and the movers wouldn't pack it, so I put it in my car to transport it myself. One week later as I was driving through Texas in the summer, I saw 2 people trying to stomp out a small grass fire that was getting uncomfortably close to some parked cars. Knowing I had the extinguisher, I pulled over to help. One guy looked at the extinguisher and said, "that's not going to do anything." I pulled the safety tab and squirted a few places and out came a white powder that immediately extinguished the flames. There were a few flare ups after the fire was out, but I put those out too. I looked at the gauge afterwords and I have to say, it wasn't completely empty, but it emptied out more than I would have expected for how much I used it. If it were a kitchen fire, it would have been more than ample. It was easy to aim and the force of the spray didn't make it difficult to handle. If I can't get this one refilled, I'll definitely buy another one. Highly recommended.

3 out of 5 stars For few extra dollars, I would have preferred metal   August 28, 2010

There's a bit of a gap in what you can get for a non-toxic kitchen-type fire extinguisher. This one... you just never know about plastic. The next step up is a $200+ type K that is really meant for commercial use. Make me a $35 fire extinguisher just like this one, but with metal parts and refillable. I'd buy it. I'm going to end up buying 2 or 3 of these things just to make sure one works when I really need it.

3 out of 5 stars Slow Delivery, Mangled Packing, But its Purpose Matters Most   August 16, 2010
Jay Powell (Des Moines, IA)
It took a long time to receive the fire extinguisher. I ordered other items at the same time and they arrived over one week earlier. The extinguisher's box was trashed (but not the shipping box) - how could they ship a product like that out to a consumer?!?!?!?! It was missing the strap that holds it to the bracket for wall mounting. However, I kept it because I was not wall mounting it (at this time) and I primarily care about its ability to put out fires. The gauge says it has a full charge (I guess you have to trust it).

1 out of 5 stars Arrived broken   August 3, 2010
Blume (USA)
Opened the box and had a bunch of white powdery stuff puff up.. along with some loose rattling of something, and more powder coming out when I attempted to take it out. Checked the contents setting and saw its already mostly empty (not 100%... I guess there's still some in there).
Found out you can't just return the item, you HAVE to contact customer service since the item is considered hazardous. Yet then customer service told me that its ok to discard it in the trash since its already mostly empty. I did mention the powder to her... but she had no clue. Oy.

Replacement is being shipped.
